As part of our continued series Avid Creative Dialogues and in celebration of Emirati Women’s Month 2026, We Emerge Stronger: How Emirati Female Creatives Are Redefining Contemporary Culture brings together three Emirati women artists at different stages of their careers to explore the evolving role of women within the UAE’s creative landscape.

The official 2026 Emirati Women’s Day theme, “We Emerge Stronger and Better,” was announced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. This year’s celebration marks a significant moment, expanding from Emirati Women’s Day on 28 August into a month-long national celebration of Emirati women and their achievements. The theme We Emerge Stronger reflects this sense of movement and transformation, while providing a lens through which to consider the changing experiences and opportunities of women working across the creative industries.

Moderated by Anna Seaman, the panel features Safeya Sharif Al Awadhi, Almaha Jaralla, and Amna Al Memari, whose individual practices and career trajectories offer varied perspectives on the contemporary Emirati art and cultural scene.
The discussion will examine the importance of collaboration, community, and exchange between creatives, with a particular focus on the relationships and networks that exist between women working in the UAE’s creative sector. The panellists will reflect on how artists support, influence, and learn from one another, as well as the role of collaboration in creating new opportunities and strengthening the wider creative community.

The conversation will also consider how the UAE’s creative scene is developing, and how Emirati female creatives are contributing to and redefining contemporary culture through their practices. By bringing together voices from different stages of artistic development, the panel offers an opportunity to reflect on changing perspectives, emerging possibilities, and the importance of creating space for the next generation.

Ultimately, We Emerge Stronger celebrates both individual artistic journeys and the collective strength of a creative community, recognising how women, through collaboration and shared experience, continue to shape the cultural landscape of the UAE.

Almaha Jaralla

Almaha Jaralla

Artist

Almaha Jaralla is an Emirati painter whose work centres on the lived textures of the Gulf and the inherited legacies that structure that life, including ancestral ties to Aden. Working predominantly in pigment on textile, she treats fabric as a material that holds the intimacy of the domestic as well as the trace of human movement across time and lineage. Her compositions restage habitual scenes and gestures from ordinary life in the region, distilling them into archetypal relations. Faces and details recede so that posture, adjacency, colour and ground become the carriers of meaning. Jaralla’s paintings stage human motion at a small scale - pauses at roadside, collective rest, provisional gatherings - to register broader questions of belonging, settlement and social formation. Colour palettes echo the tonal drift of aged photographs, allowing temporality to surface as atmosphere rather than narrative. By compressing personal memory into simplified pictorial structures, her work shows how history persists in everyday arrangements of bodies, materials and space.Jaralla’s work is held in public and private collections internationally, including the Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE.

Safeya Sharif Al Awadhi

Safeya Sharif Al Awadhi

Artist

Safeya Sharif Al Awadhi is an Emirati artist whose practice unfolds through surreal geometry. Forms that feel dreamt before they are built. Her work inhabits a hallucinatory space between structure and illusion, where lucid-dream logic shapes visual systems that appear architectural. Through large-scale sculptures and spatial interventions, she constructs suspended frames that act as portals that distort perspective and function. Sharif’s language of repetition and physical interruption evokes a hyperreality. Familiar motifs such as windows, doors, and corridors are abstracted into floating symbols of presence, absence, and the instability of space.
