Lubaina Bandukwala

Writer, Editor and Curator of Children’s Literature Festivals

Lubaina Bandukwala is a Children’s Writer, Editor and Curator of Children’s Literature Festivals. Former journalist Lubaina turned into a children’s writer (books published by Pratham, FunokPlease) and editor (Time Life, TOI, DNA, Scholastic India, Harper Collins, Dainik Bhaskar Group) for a simple reason. Now she can read as many children’s books as she likes and call it grown-up work! And because guilty pleasures must be shared, she has also curated children’s literature sessions at the prestigious Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai and has founded her own Children’s Literature Festivals - Peek A Book and Fully Booked (with First Mum’s Club and Kids Club). This so that children and parents can explore the fabulous world of children’s books, especially those produced by Indian publishers – and discover the joys of reading.

Literature Festivals for Children

The Brooklyn Book Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Spain’s Festival of Literature and Arts for Children, and Storyfest Writers’ Festival are among the world’s top children's literature festivals. India also hosts several of these festivals that aim to expose children to the world of reading and learning through books, stories, and specially designed activities, providing a chance to interact and learn from renowned authors, storytellers, artists, filmmakers, and theatre professionals. Bookaroo, Neev Literature Festival, Madurai Children’s Literary Festival, Muskaan Literature Festival, Kitaabo- The Blue City Children’s Literature Festival, and Gurgaon Children’s Literature Festival are some popular festivals in India. Peek A Book in Mumbai is another specially curated literature festival for children aged 3 to 14, founded in 2015. It is a one-day festival that celebrates the latest books, stories, and great literature for children with immersive literary experiences.

Impact of Storytelling on Child Development

Storytelling plays a significant role in the development of young children, especially as they are naturally curious readers and learners. Stories have the power to create a positive impact on children by instilling virtues and good morals. In addition to its creative benefits, storytelling also offers numerous cognitive advantages for children. It improves their listening skills as they engage with the narrative, helping them develop better communication skills and vocabulary. In conclusion, storytelling holds immense value for young kids' development. It not only nurtures imagination but also enhances listening skills, communication abilities, memory retention, emotional intelligence, active participation, and stress reduction - all while promoting cultural understanding and appreciation for diversity.

Museum of Solutions (MuSo) - Mumbai

An experiential Children’s Museum, also popularly known as MuSO, was founded by Tanvi Jindal Shete in the year 2023. The Museum of Solutions is a space where children are trained to become responsible, conscious, caring, and mindful citizens of the world. The museum believes that children play a vital role in educating themselves and others to create real-world change. They believe that, in order to unlock this collective potential, children should be encouraged to make mistakes, dream together, celebrate learning, share knowledge, and think collaboratively. The space of the museum is divided into Play Lab, Discover Lab, Make Lab - a dedicated space for kids to enhance their design skills using art and tech, and Grow Lab - a rooftop garden to explore the world of plants.
