Raëll Padamsee's - The CREATE Foundation & Bajaj Group present Rise Up for Equality - A Special Women's Festival in collaboration with the Royal Opera House and Avid learning. 

Come experience the power of theatre with the captivating play, Bitter Chocolate, based on Pinki Virani’s best-seller of the same title. This is a highly-acclaimed and poignant solo piece, portraying child sexual abuse in India, enacted by Lushin Dubey and scripted & directed by Arvind Gaur. This festival aims to encompass the effective and timely addressing of the issues to to make Maharashtra the safest state for women & children globally.

Lushin Dubey

Actor

Lushin Dubey is an Indian stage actor and director. She has performed in prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, The Smithsonian, The World Bank, The Nehru Center, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and several NGOs. Her acclaimed solo, Untitled has completed over 280 shows in India and overseas. Her second one Bitter Chocolate has completed over 76 shows. Her production 'Salaam India has received tremendous accolades once again in India and also overseas, in the U. S. London, U. K, Muscut, and other countries. She acted in films like Partition (2007), Murder Unveiled (2005), for which she won the 2006 Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series.

Empowering women and girls

“I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard…we cannot succeed when half of us are held back”, citing the youngest Nobel laureate, Ms. Malala Yousafzai cited, as it loudly shares the sentiment of portraying the new age empowered women. With the aim to achieve a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world the United Nations has laid 17 Sustainable Goals of which Gender Equality emphasizes on the empowerment of women and girls. Ending discrimination and all kind of violence against females, ensuring women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at multiple levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life, reinforcing sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels are some targets laid by the UN to be achieved for a future with equal opportunities for all female.


CREATE Foundation


CREATE foundation was established in the loving memory of one of the finest actresses of Indian screen and theatre Pearl Padamsee, a Charitable Trust in 2002. Create Foundation aims to empower the local communities from the lower to the middle economic sectors by proving them with soft skill education and a platform for communication. They believe this will ensure better work opportunities for them and a secure lifestyle and safe future. Create Foundation trains children and youth in various domains of the creative sector under the guidance of experts from various artistic fields.

 

Theatre World and Kids World

Kids World was established in 1987 by Lushin Dubey and Bubble Sabarwal. They lead the start of a dynamic youth theatre movement in Delhi. The group works with children and young adults from the age of 4 to 24 years. The main objective of the institution is to combine education with entertainment. Kids World has staged a diverse of productions, musicals, and straight plays and also recreated fantasy fairy tales. Some examples of their work include production based on works such as E.B. Whites 'Charlottes' Web' to Roald Dahls' Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' and also Rudyard Kipling's 'Jungle Book. It is interesting to know that "Jungle Book" was an indisputable box - office hit for 9 days at the Kamani Auditorium. Theater World is a stage group committed to originals and theatre with a message. Under the banner of Theatre World were staged 'Runaways', 'Women in Black', 'The Life of Gautama Buddha', 'Untitled' and now 'Bitter Chocolate'. These productions have been Staged in India and other global places.

 

Arvind Gaur

Arvind Gaur is the head of ASMITA, a Delhi-based theatre group that is committed to innovative and socially relevant theatre. He started his career as a journalist, working with electronic media and he simultaneously set up ASMITA and eventually earned a reputation in the theatre circles across Delhi and other cities. Dharamveer Bharati's Andha Yug Swadesh Deepak's Court Martial & Kaal Kothri, Dario Fo's Accidential Death of An Anarchist Ashok Lal's Ek Mamooli Adami, Bertolt Brecht's Kanpur Ki Aurat Bhali - Ramkali, Mahesh Dattani's Final Solutions & Tara, G.P. Deshpande's Antim Divas, Neil Simon's The Good Doctor (Log Baag), Jan Otcenasek's Rameo Juliet & The Darkness, Bubbles Sabharwal's Women in Black Uday Prakash's Warren Hastings Ka Saand and Vijay Tendulkar's Ghasiram Kotwal are some of his best works.
