AVID
presents a first-of-its-kind 4 day workshop on Jazz Appreciation followed by
a concert on day5.
Jazz originated at the beginning of the 20th century in African American
communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and
European music traditions.
This course aims to give an overview of the history, evolution of Jazz
music with an introduction to the ever green Jazz masters including the great
Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Chick Corea and
Herbie Hancock. The course begins with presentations by Jon Ray from London, accompanied by
musicians using various instruments. The Indian connection – ‘Influence of
Jazz on Bollywood Music’ will be presented by Naresh Fernandes. The fitting
finale is a live concert by Jon Ray and other musicians.
