The School of Continuous Learning in association with IGI -International
Gemological Institute (with a worldwide presence in India, Europe, US, Middle
East & Far East), presents a program on “Evaluating Diamonds” ( evaluating diamonds is used again, rather
we use program on diamond grading and valuation)
Do you know the journey of a diamond, – from natural mines, through
volcanic activity through kimberlite pipes, to De Beers central selling
organization, to sight holders, and private auctions, to cutting and
polishing centers of Antwerp, Surat, Johannesburg and New York, to be sold by
wholesalers and dealers and jewelry stores to eventually become your wedding ring ?
Have you looked closely at a diamond in a laboratory, just like a
gemologist, to understand its polish, symmetry and refraction? (Can we use
terms like brilliance, dispersion & sparkle, these are more consumer
friendly)
Do you know how to read a certificate, attached to a diamond, to analyze
its table size, depth, pavilion?
(analyze the 14 parameters which influence the beauty and value)
Do you know how to price a diamond based on Rapport report and Rap net?
(try to avoid rap net)
The Five-day course aims to give an insight into the world of Gemology to
buy diamonds more confidently and to acquire the expertise to speak the
language of diamonds.
It gives an overview of the History of Diamonds, Understanding & Evaluating Diamonds
through 4 C’s – Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat, Understanding Grading and
Certification of Diamonds, Benchmarking and Valuation. The course will be a mix of theory and
practical training at the IGI Education & Scientific Lab to conclude with

ceremony.
