He is the son & disciple of a sitar maestro Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan. He is a young Sitar player of the Dilli Gharana. Suhel was born in a home where his cradle was literally surrounded by stalwarts of the Dilli Gharana like great maestro of Sursagar Ustad Mamman Khan sahib, the famed vocalists Ustad Chand Khan, Ustad Usman khan, Ustad Hilal Ahmed Khan, Ustad Nasir Ahmed Khan and Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the sarangi maestro Ustad Bundu Khan Sahab, the Violin wizard Ustad Zahoor Ahmed khan and his grandfather, the sitar maestro Ustad Zafar Ahmed Khan and his uncles great Tabla maestro Ustad Latif Ahmed Khan and Ustad Shafaat Ahmed khan ( Padma shree ). Suhel started learning sitar at the tender age of six . He would hear khayals and gats and learned melody and rhythm before his mother- tongue. In such a concentrate of musical heredity and environment, it was but natural that Suhel should crystallize as a gem of a sitarist. Naturally too, his style blends tantrakari (instrumental virtuosity) with flashes of Delhi Gharana gayaki (music vocalism). He is an approved sitar player from A.I.R Artiste. He is doing PH.D from Faculty of Music and Fine arts, Delhi University and senior diploma from Prayag Sangeet Samiti.
