Get a glimpse of Art Deco to Mid-century design through its furniture and famed architecture. Furniture restoration specialist, Chiki Doshi and architect and designer Kapil Gupta will be in conversation with architect and curator, Rajeev Thakker, to discuss how it transitioned from an acquired British Colonial style to a modern Indian milieu.

Furniture restoration specialist

Chiki Doshi has been a restorer of furniture since 1996, when he joined the firm of Mahendra Doshi, purveyors of fine antiques, period furniture, quality reproductions and collectibles. He learned the art of restoration directly under Mahendra Doshi. Chiki Doshi specializes in Colonial, Art Deco, and more recently, Mid-century Modern furniture.

Kapil Gupta

Kapil Gupta

Architect and Designer

Kapil Gupta is the co-founder of Serie Architects and Principal of Serie Mumbai. He was Director of the UDRI, and curated on their behalf, India’s first ever entry to the Venice Architecture Biennale 2006. He was a part of the Indian Team that won a special award and 2nd Prize at the Sustainable Urban Systems Design Competition in Japan 2003.

Rajeev Thakkar

Rajeev Thakkar

Architect and curator

Rajeev Thakkar is the curator of Studio X in Mumbai. He holds a BA from Syracuse University and a M.S. in Architecture and Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University. He has worked for SOM and The Arnell Group in New York. He has lectured, hosted workshops, and led Architectural Design Studios at institutes like KRVIA and the BSSA in Mumbai. He manages his own practice called ‘a-RT’.
