Avid Learning and the Consulate General of the United States invite you to Future Global Leaders: Where the World Meets India, a panel discussion on how the government and seasoned business and arts leaders mentor, lead and create opportunities for India’s future, and the role of the Arts as well as business with respect to young future leaders.

With two-thirds of India’s 1.3 billion population under the age of 35 how does the country’s leadership create a future to which young people can aspire? How do young leaders impact a range of issues, including the role of business in society, transparency in business and government, foreign policy, the impact of climate change and ecologically responsible business practices among other issues? How can the Arts contribute in creating global leaders, and what is the role of the Arts in creating future leaders?

Join Bharat Joshi, Author and CEO of JCurve Ventures Pvt. Ltd., Royston Braganza, CEO, Grameen Capital, Manjeet Kripalani, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Gateway House and Jonathan Hollander, President and Artistic Director, Battery Dance Company & Dancing to Connect, in conversation with David Moo, Economics Officer, US Consulate General, Mumbai, as they discuss how the country’s leadership creates a future to which young people can aspire, who the young global leaders in India are and what have they achieved, the role and impact of the Arts in business and in creating accomplished leaders, and the place of the Arts and foreign policy in leadership and entrepreneurship, among other issues.

Bharat Joshi is the CEO of JCurve Ventures Pvt. Ltd. Prior to founding JCurve, Bharat has worked and trained with leading multinational and Indian companies in Malaysia, Denmark and India. He regularly writes for various print and online publications, including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, IBN and Economic Times, and is visiting faculty at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. He has recently authored the book Navigating India: $18 Trillion Opportunity.

Royston Braganza joined Grameen Capital in 2007 to launch the organization as CEO. He currently oversees all aspects of operations in India. Grameen Capital, founded by Grameen Foundation USA, IFMR Trust and Citigroup, is a first of its kind social business, enabling Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) develop wider access to the capital markets. Grameen Capital is part of the global Grameen family of companies, the flagship of which is the Nobel Prize-winning Grameen Bank founded by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. In his earlier assignment, as a Senior Vice President with HSBC, Royston was instrumental in setting up and heading HSBC’s Microfinance & Priority Sector business. Prior to that, he was the head of HSBC’s SME Business. Before joining HSBC, Royston worked in Citibank India for over 8 years in various assignments both across the Consumer Bank as well as the Corporate Bank. He serves on many boards and advisory bodies, including Sa-Dhan, Grameen Foundation India, FICCI Financial Inclusion Committee, the CII National Committee on NBFC’s, the United Nations Microfinance Resource Group and the Indian Impact Investors Executive Council. He has been invited to address various programs, in India and globally, promoting microfinance as a sustainable tool to eradicate poverty. The London-based Finance Monthly publication named Royston in their 2013 Global CEO Award Winners list as one of the Top 4 CEOs in Asia, and Top 2 in India, the other one being Kumar Mangalam Birla. Royston has done his Masters in Management Studies from the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

Co-Founder and Executive Director of gateway house and Former Journalist

Manjeet Kripalani is the co-founder and the executive director of Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations. Prior to the founding of Gateway House, Kripalani was India Bureau chief of Businessweek magazine, 1996 to 2009. During her extensive career in journalism, she has won several awards. She is a member of the Asian advisory board of the International Centre for Journalists and the Overseas Press Club, and sits on the executive board of a number of non-profit organizations.

Jonathan Hollander

Jonathan Hollander

President Of Artistic

Jonathan Hollander is regarded as one of the outstanding choreographers of his generation and a leader in international cultural exchange, social activism and youth development. He founded Battery Dance in New York in 1976 which has performed and taught in more than 70 countries. He created Battery Dance Festival in 1982, New York City’s longest-running dance festival. He has conducted arts education residencies in New York City public schools; and has received Fulbright awards to share his skills in India and Malaysia. He created Dancing to Connect in 2006, fostering creativity, team-building and leadership among youth in 50 countries. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and awards in Germany and Poland. He is co-founder of the Indo-American Arts Council and has been a cultural bridge-builder between India and the U.S. for more than 25 years. He is currently leading Battery Dance on a multi-city tour of India with support from the ICCR and the U.S. Embassy.

David Moo

David Moo

Economic Affairs

David Moo currently serves as Consul for Economic Affairs at U.S. Consulate General Mumbai. He was most recently an economic officer at U.S. Embassy Jakarta covering macroeconomic issues, entrepreneurship, and third country economic relations. Previously he worked as a consular officer in Jakarta and in Caracas, and as China Policy Officer in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Before joining the State Department, Mr. Moo was a consultant for Hewitt Associates in St. Louis, MO and then in Shanghai, China. He holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Knox College.
