Join us foran intriguing lecture presentation which examines India’s unique artistic relationship with ‘The Bard’; his impact on Indian art and culture – with a special focus on music and sound – and how his legacy continues to play a major role in contemporary times.

Jonathan Gil Harris

Jonathan Gil Harris

Professor of English at Ashoka University

Jonathan Gil Harris is a scholar, teacher and director of Shakespeare. He has written many books on Shakespeare, including Shakespeare and Literary Theory (Oxford University Press, 2010) and, most recently, Masala Shakespeare (Aleph Book Company, 2018). He is best known to Indian readers as the author of the best-selling The First Firangis (Aleph Book Company, 2014). Formerly the associate editor of Shakespeare Quarterly, Harris was also a trustee of the Shakespeare Association of America and President, from 2014 to 2018, of the Shakespeare Society of India. After immigrating to India to 2013, he became founding Dean of Academic Affairs at Ashoka University, where he is Professor of English.
